We The Rainbow People

A virtual exhibition of 19 digital works that took place at The Holy Art gallery in June 2022.

A surrealist mashup of digital illustration with photography, the collection tells a story of a tribe of rainbow creatures, inhabiting our world in a way that is strange – and yet strangely familiar. Just like us, they fit in by trying to stand out, with unconscious grace arranging themselves into weird and wonderful shapes they find most suitable for the environment, holding the precarious balance while elusive liquid reality twists and curls around them.

Being an artist – and in a way we all are, as creators of our own lives – is this struggle to become a living monument to one’s own self. But what if this monument is put somewhere where nobody sees it, or hidden in plain sight? Will it exist at all – and what would be the point of this existence? Despite their obvious flashiness, the rainbow people dance their fantastic dance unnoticed, even if there are actual people right next to them. And to me, this sums up modern life, with its many degrees of isolation and all-consuming quest for attention.
